NGO demands ban on 'Pati Patni Aur Woh'

NGO demands ban on 'Pati Patni Aur Woh'

Just as the show launched amidst much publicity yesterday there has also been a lot of protest against the content of the show. Everyone from concerned individuals to NGOs have voiced their concerns as the show deals with infants who are just six months young.

A Delhi-based NGO Uday Foundation filed a complaint to Minister of State for Women and Child Development (WCD) Krishna Tirath against NDTV Imagine's Pati Patni Aur Woh.

Rahul Verma, co-founder and managing trustee of the Uday foundation has cited health hazards to newborns and toddlers who feature in it as reasons in his complaint.

Pati Patni Aur Woh is a reality show that deals with the various issues on parenting. The five celeb couples who are participants on the show are Rakhi Sawant-Elesh Parujanwala, Shilpa Saklani-Apurva Agnihotri, Juhi Parmar-Sachin Shroff, Mouni Roy-Gaurav Chopra and Gurmeet Chaudhary-Debina Bonnerjee.

Verma has also sent a copy of his complaint to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and Ministry of Labour.

Rahul has mentioned in his complaint that, "We hope you will agree that this is completely unethical to exploit very young children (new borns and toddlers) in the pursuit of entertainment."

"Separating babies and toddlers from their parents for extended periods of time can lead children to feel distress and anxiety. After prolonged separation, a child can feel distrust for his/her primary caregiver and also separation can damage a healthy attachment and a child's sense of safety."

Verma has demanded that the show should be banned till the time the ministry of Ministry of Women and Child Development is completely satisfied with the format of the show. He has also demanded unedited recording tapes of the show from the producers to have correct information of handling of the children during the shoot.

Sach Ka Saamna stopped

Sach Ka Saamna stopped

Star Plus' controversial reality show, Sach ka Saamna ended last week. But the fact that its first season folded up within two months has raised many eye brows.

So what is the real reason for Sach Ka Saamna wrapping up in just two months? Normally reality formats which do well stretch for nearly three to four months before taking a seasonal break. Can this mean that this Star Plus show where people reveal their dark secrets on national television has really not clicked? A cursory glance at the TRP charts does indicate that apart from the first week, it did not really set the ratings on fire. Viewers who have watched the show will accept the fact that Indian public is still not comfortable to view such bold content along with family. Secondly, the fact that the channel was forced to push the show to 11 pm slot did not help matters, as late night slots always have lesser viewership.

Could another major reason be that the channel and the production house ran short of people who had enough dirty linen to wash in public? Well, having said this, we also know that many people had been turned down, for they were not controversial enough. And many celebrities who were approached simply refused to be part of the show, courtesy the format which has all the ingredients in it to make a person shy away!!

We have also heard that one such celebrity who has a show on a News channel was clearly told in no uncertain terms that if she takes part in Sach Ka Saamna, her contract will stand cancelled. The celebrity is reported to have been offered good amount of participation fee as well, but she was forced to decline. May be the above reason (lack of saleable contestants) also forced the channel to tweak the format mid way to allow participants to keep 10 lacs, once they cross that threshold. Earlier, the contestants had to forfeit the entire amount on a single mistake. Having said this, even internationally very few people have take home the full booty, which in our format happened to be 1 crore. Also, the recent spate of press reports of linking deaths to the show may have also harmed its prospects. This format had run into trouble quite early with even Parliament debating the matter.

In this given scenario although the channel is touting that Sach Ka Saamna will return with Season 2, the jury still seems to be out on a possible return; hence the channel has not fixed a date. Also, there have been reports floating that the host Rajeev Khandelwal is not forthcoming in hosting another season of the show..

But in all this criticism, if somebody has walked away with lot of aplomb and respect, it will have to be anchor Rajeev Khandelwal, who has really handled some of the very delicate questions in an extremely sensitive manner.

Alarm bells for Pati Patni Aur Woh!

Alarm bells for Pati Patni Aur Woh!

Pati Patni Aur Woh will be airing from next week on NDTV Imagine, but even before the show launches, there had been lots of controversies already hounding it. Recently, a court had issued a notice to the show for mishandling the babies.

“The court has already slapped a notice to the show demanding to stop the shoot and scrap it from airing on the channel,” says our khabroo.

Elaborating more on why the court has sent a notice, our source informs, “The celeb couple are mishandling the babies, and there had been complains from the parents of the children too. There had been lots of problem regarding these issues where parents are restrained to handle their own child, when he/ she goes on crying for hours.”

“Even in Canada the show was taken off-air in the midst, due to the same issue. This show has already created a lot of hullabaloo in foreign countries and thus the NGO’s supporting child labor has come forward and had asked the court to summon the notice. They are also appealing the junta to not watch the show,” concludes the source.

The show will be airing from 28 September at 10:30 pm, so now lets see of how long is it able to sustain amidst these controversies.

Woman ends her life after watching Sach Ka Saamna

Woman ends her life after watching Sach Ka Saamna

A 32-year-old woman in Agra allegedly committed suicide after being deeply affected by watching actress Roopa Ganguly in the television reality show Sach Ka Saamna. She felt her life was similar to the actress' in many ways and that she had failed as a daughter, wife and mother, police said.

Pallavi, who has a 12-year-old son from her estranged husband, was living with a man called Dharmendra, who too is separated from his wife. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan on Sunday, police officials said.

Dharmendra told police that Pallavi was moved by some questions relating to Roopa Ganguly's past on Sach Ka Saamna Saturday night and had been depressed since then.

On Sunday afternoon, neighbours knocked at their door but found no response. They then called Dharmendra, who runs a photo studio near the Taj Mahal. When he opened the door, he found Pallavi hanging from the fan.

She had left a suicide note, which is with the police now, expressing her deep anguish with life.

The note said: "All are good in the world except me. I couldn't be a good daughter, mother, sister or wife and have become a problem for all...therefore (I am) going away, far away. I remember my son Kavi. Inform my husband and son of my death. Perhaps they may come for my last rites."

About Dharmendra, she wrote: "Dharmendra is a very good human being, he takes good care of me, but I can not continue to remain a keep of his."

She did not blame anyone for her death in the note.

Dharmendra told police that Pallavi found many similarities between herself and the life of Roopa Ganguly, best known for playing Draupadi in TV series Mahabharat.

"She felt as if every question was directed towards her and took the show to heart," he said.

Sach Ka Saamna, which is now off the air, is a show where contestants are asked personal questions and a polygraph machine decides if their answers are true or not. Hosted by Rajeev Khandelwal, the show has seen common people as well as celebrities participating.

True Lies: Polygraph Ka Sach

True Lies: Polygraph Ka Sach

"Kya aapne aapke mangetar ke saath bewafai kee hai" (Have you cheated on your fiance), asked the anchor. The contestant a young lady weighed the
question for a while and then said, "Yes!" The answer was correct and she crossed one more hurdle to winning a crore, even as the fiance absorbed the shock of the unsavoury revelation. Actually, once the question had been popped, it was in her interest to tell the truth for a lie could be nailed by the polygraph machine. To be sure, the reality TV show 'Sach Ka Saamna' had its positive side. It encouraged contestants to tell the truth and the rewards were not only monetary, but also psychological and social. For airing one's dark motives, infidelities and hurts buried deep inside can take a load off one's conscience and put the relationships on firmer ground. However, the flip side is that the crucible the polygraph test on which the show relies, is far from being foolproof. The test is based on the premise that when a person tells a lie his physiological responses are different than when he speaks the truth. However, its reliability remains questionable. Various studies have put its accuracy between 80 and 95 per cent. But what is worse, in its 2003 report on the subject, the National Association of Sciences of the USA found that the majority of polygraph research was 'unreliable, unscientific and biased'.

Even the most ardent supporters of the polygraph test concede that it is possible to cheat the machine. Aldrich Ames, the CIA counterintelligence officer who was convicted for spying for Soviet Union and later Russia, passed several such tests. There are several such examples. In other words, the machine can also lie. Not because it isn't smart but because, one, different people react differently to lying and two, the physiological responses that are identified with a falsehood can also be triggered by a host of other reasons nervousness, anxiety and stress. It doesn't help that in the end the examiner's interpretation is subjective. Surfing on the Net, one comes across many personal cases in which a false polygraph test verdict ruined perfectly sound relationships. Is it a good reason to ban the show from ever returning for a second season? Certainly not, but considering that the spirit of scientific enquiry is hardly the forte of our society, no harm would be done if a cautionary warning about the limitations of the polygraph test was displayed before each episode.

Item Girl Rakhi Sawant rejects Elesh

Item Girl Rakhi Sawant rejects Elesh

The most famous item girl of India is in news again and this time also she is following her usual pattern of dropping a bomb at the last minute.

The latest buzz is that Rakhi Sawant will not marry Elesh Parujanwala, the guy she chose after conducting nationwide Swayamwar to be her fiancé.

Rakhi give ‘irreconcilable differences’ as an excuse to not marry the Canadian businessman. They are currently doing a reality show called Pati Patni Aur Woh and will announce that the marriage has been called off in the last episode.

Rakhi is always known for her ‘bindaas’ attitude and she said, “Bahut farq hai hum dono mein. Elesh and I belong to different cultures. He thinks West, while I think East.”

She says further, “I don’t think an Indian girl should marry a boy with Western values (sic). During this new reality show, there were a lot of ups and downs between Elesh and me… well, there were more downs than ups.”

A long queue of guys for Swayamwar, celebrity stars and designers planning her wedding trousseau, sponsors, worldwide telecast of the show, tasks and dates, dance and drama, rejected all and chose one guy from overseas and now he is not good enough. That is something only Rakhi can manage to pull it off.

Rakhi Sawant makes a mess of motherhood

Rakhi Sawant makes a mess of motherhood

If you’re one of those who bet that Rakhi Sawant won’t be able to handle the pressure of motherhood, you might just be coming into a lot of money. Sources have it that Rakhi is having a terrible time playing mother to 10-month-old Jay on the sets of the upcoming Reality TV show Pati Patni Aur Woh on NDTV Imagine. After getting excited initially and buying fancy clothes for the child, Rakhi’s realised it is no child’s play to take care of a child.

In an interview prior to the shoot for the show began, Rakhi had said crying babies give her a headache, and that she can’t imagine being without make-up.

Her nightmares seem to have come true, as she claims to be devoid of sleep and hassled all the time. In a footage of the show, Rakhi can be seen applying makeup to the toddler, something which has not gone down too well with many.

Contrary to what the footage shows, a channel spokesperson, when asked, said Rakhi is actually doing quite well and has even bought gifts for the child from the US.

Rakhi Sawant not feeling motherhood

Rakhi Sawant not feeling motherhood

Rakhi Sawant doesn’t look like your traditional mother and she certainly isn’t trying to showcase her maternal side in Bollywood, which makes it all the more surprising that she has taken on the task of bringing up a baby in her newest venture.

Sources are claiming that Rakhi hasn’t exactly taken to motherhood the way a duck takes to water. The item girl is reportedly having a tough time playing ‘mama’ to 10 month old Jay for her new NDTV reality show, Pati Patni Aur Woh.

So in short, Rakhi doesn’t want a ‘Pati’, has no real desire to be a ‘Patni’ and now the ‘Woh’ is giving her a headache too! Poor girl!

It seems the initial excitement of having a baby around to play dress up with has waned and Rakhi has suddenly been hit by the needs of a child, not easy when you are used to being the demanding one in any relationship.

In the house, whist Rakhi is happy enough to play with Jay, the messier tasks such as cleaning up and changing nappies seem to fall firmly on fiancĂ© Elesh Parujanwala. A source says, “Rakhi is cursing the day she agreed to this. She weeps and worries about not getting any time to do her makeup.”

Rakhi has previously said that crying babies give her a headache, and that she can’t imagine being without make-up, not a statement that boded well for the show. Not to worry though, Rakhi is compensating by applying make-up to the baby instead!

Actress Sambhavna Seth said, “Not that Rakhi looked good even with makeup, but now she’s realising what it takes. Bachche ko publicity ke liye mohra banana theek nahi”. Actor Raja Chaudhry says, “Rakhi is such a dramebaaz, that’s why she’s there.”

A spokesperson for NDTV denied the reports and the official line is that Rakhi is doing well with her ‘first child’.

Talking point with Juhi Parmar

Talking point with Juhi Parmar

You have been making quite a few guest appearances with your husband Sachin Shroff on reality . Was it a build up to Pati, Patni aur Woh?

Being actors we end up doing similar kind of shows and people want to see us together. But we can only do few shows together because it is no fun being together at all times. There are chances that you might get bored. In times like these, we only do guest appearances. Pati Patni aur Woh was a one-off instance where we decided to work together because we wanted to test our compatibility.

What is the main motive of the show?

The motive of this show is to get a hang of parenting. Whenever a person becomes a parent, it’s a completely new experience for them and at times they find it difficult to deal with. We will get to see how we deal with it beforehand.

Why did you choose to be a part of it?

I am a very impatient person by nature and I wanted to learn the art of dealing with kids. Moreover, I got married just a few months back and the two of us wanted to see how we react under difficult situations and how we live through all the ups and downs. In the end, all these hardships will definitely make our bond stronger.

There has been a lot of hue and cry about using children on the show.

There is absolutely no child labour involved here. The kids do not work for money and their real parents are always around to see them. They are not made to work and are taken good care of.

You have been a part of many reality shows in the past, both as participant and anchor.

As an actor, it is nice to be an all-rounder. Although I enjoy playing a character the most, reality shows give you a chance to pursue for hobby. For instance, Say Shava Shava brought out the singer in me, although I was terrible at it. Comedy Circus helped me get my comic timing right.

Post Kumkum, one thought you would be part of more soap operas. But you chose not to.

The only reason was because it takes a lot of time. During Kumkum, I was always working throughout the month and I desperately needed a break. I had also just gotten married and needed more time for myself and my family. But I have taken up a television serial called Chanda Kanoon which is a weekly feature and doesn’t take too much of my time.

What’s coming up next?
It’s a comedy film called Padduram, directed by Ajay Monga.

Roopa Ganguly on Sach ka Saamna finale

Roopa Ganguly on Sach ka Saamna finale

The 50-episode show Sach ka Saamna that threw up a lot of controversies and dazed all with its boldness is finally coming to an end.

But not without a surprise. In the last episode of this reality show, none other than actress Roopa Ganguly will be seen on the hot seat. So what made Roopa take a decision to appear on the show? “I was in two minds after watching the first two episodes. But later, I realised it isn’t just about digging the past. It influences the human mind. Even if truth can be humiliating and sad, I knew I could justify my answers,” Roopa said.

However, she’s disappointed that she couldn’t reveal as many secrets as she would have loved to about herself. She said, “Post Mahabharat my experience was shocking. I got the biggest jolt of my life. Thankfully, I wasn’t too ambitious to have stooped to levels wherein sexual favours alone could have got me success. In all these 24 years of my career, I haven’t asked anyone for work.”

When asked about her bond with Diveyendu, a 30-year-old Bengali singer, Roopa said, “He was the one who got me back to Mumbai. He asked me to work again so that people remember me for my hard work,” she said.

Season 2 for Sach Ka Saamna

Season 2 for Sach Ka Saamna

Sach Ka Saamna, which has been in news ever since its inception for its controversial nature, is ending on September 18. The producers are planning a second season, though the host Rajeev Khandelwal has not even agreed to host an extension to season one.

Confirming the news of the extension, a source from the channel says, “The show has done extremely well and the TRPs have soared despite controversies and change in its air time. The channel was keen to have 30 more episodes in addition to the earlier contract of 50 episodes.”

Rajeev, though, is happy that the show is being pulled off air at the right time. He says, “The popularity of the show never slipped, which is rare on Indian television. There were discussions of an extension, but now I am committed to the films I have signed and I think it’s better to leave on a high.”

However Siddhartha Basu, head honcho at Big Synergy, has a different perspective. He says, “Various plans were discussed and extending the show-time to one hour was one of them. We had an initial plan of 50 episodes and we stuck to it as extending the number of episodes is a huge process which involves testing the authenticity of the contestants to getting details and contacting family members. So there might be a season 2 now.”

Sach Ka Saamna: Confronting the Truth on Women’s Plight

Sach Ka Saamna: Confronting the Truth on Women’s Plight

As a requirement of our Masters degree programme, my friends and I had to do some research on the coverage of violence against women in local newspapers in the past ten years. Because it was a pre-requisite to getting our degree, we started off treating the research paper as just that.

Nonetheless, the paper led us into women’s shelters, NGO offices and even the female division of the Central Prison. We spoke to both the victims of the violence and those who gave them shelter and support, and heard sordid tales of tribal (in)justice, and economic and sexual crimes – things that made for many a sleepless night thinking of how weak and helpless women become in a patriarchal society.

By the last two weeks before the submission deadline, we had all become hardcore feminists albeit for the time being. We worked day and night, making charts and bar graphs, co-relating illiteracy and violence against women, and finally completing our research with a truly heartfelt research report and presentation.

But even so, once the project was done and high marks awarded, that was it. We went our separate ways, some managing families, and others earning big bucks as writers, directors and television anchors.

I had long forgotten about the research but that was before I laid hands on Mukhtaran Mai’s In the Name of Honour. Critics might call her an opportunist, or hungry for fame, but for me it was like revisiting my research, for I had met countless Mukhtaran Mais in the course of that study.

They might not have been brave (or connected) enough to go public with their stories of the atrocities committed against women in the name of tradition, culture and even religion, but they too had suffered at the hands of the same society.

Around the time was I reading In the Name of Honour, the popularity ratings of an Indian reality show called Sach Ka Saamna had shot sky-high. Aimlessly surfing channels one night, I happened to come across one of its riveting episodes. I watched spellbound as a young woman faced the show’s host, placing her personal life on a very public pedestal, without ever losing face.

As the sole breadwinner of her family, the 20-plus girl was brimming with the (over)confidence of ten women put together, and the sassy smartness of someone who had faced and come to terms with much in this world. The girl might not have seemed desperate, and not many from the audience could have empathised with her, so brazen was she in replying to the questions put to her. But because I was already in that mellowed state of mind in which I was ready to cry over the plight of women, it was not difficult to imagine how she must have struggled (and suffered) in a man’s world to make ends meet. Not that anything in her demeanour gave that away. I sat there thinking of reasons that brought her to this show. It could not have been an urge to own up to her failings and faults, because she sounded like a woman who always spoke her mind. So for those for whom her answers mattered, it was apparent that they knew full well the extent of the realities that she had come to confront at the talk show.

And her parents, sister and fiancé were all there to cheer her on, even as she admitted to lies and betrayals linked to them in one way or the other.

Did she brave this indignity for fame, I wondered. In our part of the world, so little has changed over the years that even today, a girl stepping out to do little more than give her family a better life is labelled with all sorts of not-very-pleasant names. In fact, she spends half the time justifying her movements.

In such a hostile set-up, this was exactly the kind of popularity that the girl was better off without.

The truth was that this girl was sitting in the ‘hot seat’ to seek what seemed like a novel way to earn the much-needed money for her family.

She said as much in her initial conversation with the host, by declaring that she always did her best to provide what her family needed without caring about herself.

But, frankly speaking, I could see little difference between those women I had been reading and thinking about who underwent the violence of all kinds over some petty issues, and this woman, whose character was battered and torn to shreds while she sat with a pretty smile pasted on her face.

This too was torture, albeit of a different kind. As judgmental as I may sound, the whole episode was nothing more than an exercise in massive exploitation – an assault on her character and a test of her nerves – and she braved this indignity only to make some big and fast bucks for her loved ones.

Every day should be International Women’s Day for the women of this world, I thought as I watched her, for women struggle to be recognised as nothing more than human beings day in, day out. There I was, all depressed about the plight of women who had survived rapes, burns and acid attacks. None of them had been willing to undergo the torture that they’d faced, mostly for no fault of their own.

But here was a woman who had willingly placed herself in the line of fire. The presenter, writer and director of the talk show, were all part of the girl’s character assassination. And what was even sadder was the thought that ten million viewers sat glued to their television screens while this happened.

So sadistic has the world become that they enjoy other people’s disgrace and suffering. In fact, they even justify their liking of this show by saying it is good for the society to “speak and confront the truth.” In the long run, they argue, this would be good for all of them. But for me, this episode was the last straw. All I could do was cry. And I thought the more we tell ourselves that things have changed, the more they remain the same. At least, for women.

Sach ka Saamna gets the axe

Sach ka Saamna gets the axe

The truth train has derailed. Despite all the shock and awe it generated, Star Plus’ bold reality show Sach Ka Saamna is coming to a rather abrupt end on September 18.

End of the line?

Says Rajeev Khandelwal, who won accolades as the host of the show, “I’m a little upset. I will miss the show, the team and, of course, the contestants. I didn’t even realise when I completed my contract of 50 episodes. If they plan a sequel to the show and decide to hire me again, I am game.”

However, the second season seems difficult right now, given the negative feedback surrounding the show. Says Siddhartha Basu, the brain behind the Indian version of the Moment of Truth, “It was a serious game show which had its own steady viewership. It wasn’t everybody’s cup of tea. The first season was like a testing ground, which turned out well. For the sequel, we need to talk it out with the channel bosses.”

However, senior creative director, Anupama Mandloi, insists that a season is “absolutely possible” and adds, “We could have extended it, but felt it was better to close as planned as it left the viewers asking for more.”

Life changing

Participants on the show are unanimous that it was a big leap for reality TV in India. Says Lakshmi Narayan, “For me it helped break a lot of stereotypes associated with eunuchs and also furthered my cause. The show was a reality check on the hypocrisy in our society.”

Bobby Darling adds, “It helped me improve my relations with my dad. People made fun of me earlier, but after seeing me on the show, their attitude changed.”

Pati Patni Aur Woh - Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonerjee

Pati Patni Aur Woh - Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonerjee

The most hit and famous on-screen jodi of Ram and Sita, Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonerjee are back on-screen together with Pati Patni Aur Woh. With this show they finally reveal their on-going relationship to the world.

What took you so long to reveal your relationship?

Gurmeet: I thought that this is the right time to talk about our four years of relationship to the world. Also, we wanted to shock the audience that we are together.

Debina: I want to correct Gurmeet, we are together since four and a half years, and are grateful to get the big break on TV as Ram and Sita.

Why did you choose to do this show?

Gurmeet: It is a unique concept and a new experience for us, where we have to take care of the babies as their parents. Alongside there is no bitching or eating worm in the show, as it is very clean. I hope people like us in this show as well.

Debina: Gurmeet is very nice person and has always supported me, and even in this show he will take all my tension by handling and taking proper care of the baby.

Gurmeet: I don’t know who will be handling the baby and who will be taking care of the kitchen. All the BBC guys tease me, as I don’t know how to cook.

Debina: I have been telling him to learn cooking, but he is just not listening. What if he will be given the task of cooking? Then it seems we will be having jala (burn) khana in the show (grins). Or else, I had to teach him the same on the show.

Have you any time dealt with infants or toddlers in your real life?

Gurmeet: I haven’t dealt much, but yes my brother has a smart and cute little boy and I love him much. Also, my sister has a cute and pretty looking daughter whom I adore much, but haven’t dealt with them on daily basis, as changing their nappies or cleaning their potty.

Debina: I haven’t dealt with kids so much beside the one in my show, Luv and Kush, that also just for few hours.

Don’t you think that the condition of these infants and toddlers can create controversies?

Gurmeet: I don’t think so, as the production house will be taking their real parents too, but the fact only remains that they will be monitoring their child from the other room through CCTV. Also, there are precautions and doctors available.

We have gone through medical and psychological test to see to it that we don’t hurt the little ones in any case, and that, we will be able to handle the stress in any situation. Their parents can intervene if they think that we are not able to handle their child well.

Debina: We have gone thorough lots of medical test. They have taken 3 bottles of my blood. I am most scared of the needles, but then had no other choice but to cry and do all the tests.

One thing you are looking and not looking forward to, in the show?

Debina: For the first time we won’t be acting on-screen, this is what I am looking forward to. On the other hand, I don’t want to look forward for the jala hua khana from Gurmeet’s kitchen.

What do you expect, a girl or a boy child in the show?

Both: There are no choices for us, but we don’t mind parenting either of them.

NCW to serve notice to 'Sach Ka Saamna' serial

NCW to serve notice to 'Sach Ka Saamna' serial

National Commission for Women (NCW) will serve notice to controversial TV serial 'Sach Ka Saamna' production house following complaints from women.

"There were several complaints against the serial from women, so we have decided to serve notice on the production house 'Big Synergy' to seek explanation," Chairperson of the Commission Girija Vyas told reporters here today.

Several women had complained about the way social values are being depicted in the serial, she said.

Vyas appealed to the people not to participate in the show which makes participants' private life public.

"I am also of the opinion that there must be difference between one's personal and public life," she said.

Such revelation of truth not only affects the life of the participants but also that of viewers.

I ensured I wasn't hurtful to Bobby Darling: Rajeev

Being sensitive to Bobby Darling was just one of the many concerns that Rajeev Khandelwal had when he started hosting the show Sach Ka Saamna

If Bobby faced her moment of truth with a mix of emotion and poise as a guest on Sach Ka Saamna, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi was feisty and full of beans. But that didn't stop Rajeev from worrying that he would offend Laxmi.

"I really hesitated to use the word hijra on Sach Ka Saamna," says Rajeev on the latest episode of Headlines Today's weekly interview show Star Trek. "But I checked with the research department and with Babu ( Sach Ka Saamna producer Siddhartha Basu). I was told that the fears are all in my mind. Babu told me Laxmi is proud of who she is, that she would end up educating me about her community, and that I need not worry at all."

Rajeev first shot into the limelight when he starred as Sujal in the late-night soap Kahiin To Hoga. He quit the show when it was at its peak to find his way in films.

In 2008, he made his film debut with the offbeat terror saga Aamir. As he gets set to shoot for half a dozen films in the coming months, Rajeev's enjoying the spotlight as the host of the highly controversial and tremendously successful game show Sach Ka Saamna.

In a rare interview, Rajeev tells Headlines Today's Entertainment Editor Anna M.M. Vetticad about his own addiction to Sach Ka Saamna, about how he's never recovered from being rejected by the Gladrags Manhunt organisers because of his height, about going shirtless for a film, and most of all, about his fear of being turned down by a woman.
