Rajeev on Sach ka Saamna hotseat

Rajeev on Sach ka Saamna hotseat

In what might be a first one in India, the host of a reality show is set to sit on the hot seat and experience the pounding of a contestant’s heart. The television industry is abuzz with rumours of Rajeev Khandelwal being on the other side of the line and answering questions about his personal life on Sacch Ka Saamna, the show he hosts.

Rajeev says that there is no sacch in the rumours, but our sources from the TV channel insist that seeing Rajeev on the hot seat is indeed in store for viewers. Rajeev says, “First of all, I never contest on reality shows.

Secondly, I am hosting this one ... How can I be on the other side? It’s like asking Mr Shah Rukh Khan to be on the hot seat on Kaun Banega Crorepati. And thirdly, I don’t have the courage to reveal my innermost secrets to the whole world, not even to myself.”

Sach ka SAAMNA...!!!

Sach ka SAAMNA...!!!

Bhopal, Aug 29:
Truth or Dare! Just the lure of lucre seems to be enough incentive for Indians. To let their deepest darkest secrets come out, never mind if, in the process, they risk Marriage, relationship with friends and family forever.

We, as a rule, are supposed to be very aware of boundaries and keep dirty lines in the bottom most draws of our closets. Which is why no one learns of the bed hopping antics of our nest. That said, all that seems to be in the past. You're average aunty, happily married with kids and house proud, is on TV admitting to stuff and all will forever shatter the "Pati - Parmeshwar" image to bits.

Or, take the figure in his 60s who admit to paying for sex, with woman young enough to be his daughter.

This is more than just a example shift.... It's a ditch buster and its on Prime TV. Five days a week " SACH KA SAAMNA" how's that for a name? Family entertainment- that will shatter, once and for all, our habit of taking things as face value nothing is what it seems as all hypocrisy looms large in our society as family traditions remains hear says while people continue to act as per will. 'Kandan ki izzat and Parmpara bullshit is over for good and we're quite happy letting it all hangouts.... Showing our growth and all.

Emotions and emotional intelligence is not carried over from one generation to the next we learned from our own experiences. "Kandan ki izzat and Parmpara" and other social catchwords will remain here as long as humans lives on this planet. There is nothing wrong in any of natural emotions, it become wrong when we apply wrong means to satisfy the natural emotions. So don't think that this "sach ka saamna" is some kind of revolution. It is just a show and nothing is going to change in our lives after watching this. I have done many experiments with truth and found that it is very satisfying and we always feel better good after speaking truth.

"Indian culture", a general excuse given by us whenever we are exposed with truth. We can do everything, if given a chance we can have extra marital affairs, conspire against our friends and relatives, do all the unethical thing with just condition that no body know about it. We all have inner desire of having pleasure, money, fame and we go to achieve that in whatever ways provided nobody knows about it.

For me these people have courage to face the truth and they may be correct or not it's a debatable question, but we should not forget we all are humans. As far as spoiling relationships are concerned I think it's better to live with a true person with known weakness rather than a person we don't know. If this show goes on to become a success, it just goes on to prove that we INDIANs would strip naked as good as any other race of this world for some quick bucks, in front of the whole world.

There is nothing wrong with the show. Contestants come on their own. I have read a lot of comments saying, "Star Plus should not spoil the lives of common people". Well Star Plus is not doing anything. The people who participate in the show are spoiling their lives out of their own will. I think the family is equally to be blamed, I mean they did allow contestant to participate in this show. So, it's not like they are the 'Bechaara''. The family is aware of the concept of the show and they are aware that the questions will be too personal. They are aware that the contestant is going to reveal a lot of personal information on national TV. The only things they do not know are the answers. But then the family is equally for the money as the contestant is.

This show just show people could get they are on TV for money that they are ready to give up their quiet family life and give out all the personal stuff.

There is no point in blaming the TV for bringing in this show. He is there to make money "Not to make India a better place to live"

End of the day its all boils down to "MONEY" Yaar
Every one wants it quick and easy "MONEY"....!

And the Truth Shall Set You Free

And the Truth Shall Set You Free

Do you judge people based on their colour instead of their work?”

A: Yes

Q: “Have you ever felt your family uses you for money?”

A: Yes

Q: “Have you ever thought of killing your spouse?”

A: Yes

Q: If your wife died, would you marry again?

A: Yes

Questions that India has never asked itself, let alone answered on national television, are being aired late at night on Sach ka Saamna – and over 10 million people are watching every weeknight in awed, stunned silence.

The show has generated some very passionate and strong responses.

While some claim it is against Indian values and could break families, others begrudgingly admire contestants’ courage to say it as it is.

Last night, I watched as a man from the northern state of Bihar admitted he had helped kidnap a friend’s girlfriend, vandalised public property (and felt happy when the news featured his photograph), used force to influence voting results and was living with a woman who he wasn’t legally married to.

The game’s format is such that the closest family members of the contestants are with them, and their react-
ions form an important part of the reality show.

As yesterday’s participant progressed through the various levels, he insisted he wanted to keep playing because he was at the show to tell the truth, not for the money. And even while we’re tempted to disbelieve such claims, I think there’s a lot going on under
the surface that we cannot immedia-tely appreciate.

Whether it is in the name of social values, family honour or culture, Indians have long lived a life of double standards. While we present a veneer that is conservative, polite, cultured and politically correct most times, we have calmly carried on with adultery, bribery, tax evasion, dishonesty and more in the name of survival.

‘One has to’, is an oft-heard line. Dishonesty is rampant and black money oils our country’s gears, yet each of us has somehow accepted that these are not real issues. As long as the surface stays smooth and our actions do not bring the family any dishonour, all is well. Of course, we are quick to point a reprimanding finger at those caught out, and even ridicule those who have the courage to swim against the tide and maintain transparency.

Yet one has to wonder: Could it possibly be that all of us have drowned the voice of our conscience? Doesn’t the dishonest man/woman ever lie awake at night, wondering where they’re headed?

If the truth is reputed to set us free, don’t they wish to fly? Don’t we hunger to be loved, just as we are with our warts and all?

If so, Sach ka Saamna is perhaps a platform from where they can hope to go back to a liberated, honest life which brings them closer to their loved ones – or cuts ties that tether them to a lie.

The mere expression of a desire to be ‘free’ of the sham that family life can be is considered blasphemy, yet the show is encouraging men to own up in front of their wives that they have been
unfaithful, or women to admit that they have toyed with the idea of killing their husbands. Why? And then again,
why not?

If one thinks about it, neither adultery nor murderous thoughts are unusual in a marriage; we have simply come to expect that such truths will never be voiced. What if they are? Shouldn’t honesty logically lead to more trust, deeper understanding, a fearless life and a closer connection with your loved ones?

Yes, there is bound to be a period of turmoil when, back home, more questions are asked, even deeper emotions are churned, doubts expressed and many bitter tears shed.

But after all of that, after loved
ones have forgiven past sins, come to terms with the new openness and
the relationship takes on a freshness born of transparency, won’t every-
body be happier?

I believe that’s what is driving the contestants of Sach ka Saamna. Something in them is tired of the constant pretence. They hunger to offload the guilt that may have been of their own making, but is now is too heavy to
carry around.

It is new for Indians to see real life’s real emotions in such harsh light, but I believe we will ultimately benefit from this public owning of human failings.

If nothing else, it will help us see that we are not alone, that there are others out there who have done worse. If we can forgive ourselves and our loved ones, if we can emulate some of that honesty in our own homes and work places, we might just see a more open, more genuine and a more relaxed society in the years to come.

Forensic expert wants ‘Sach Ka Saamna’ banned

Forensic expert wants ‘Sach Ka Saamna’ banned

A forensic expert has demanded a ban on “Sach Ka Saamna”, a popular reality show in Hindi on Star Plus television channel, for using the unscientific technique of polygraph or the lie detector test.

Speaking to Express, Dr P Chandra Sekharan, former Director, Forensic Sciences Department, Tamil Nadu government and principal scientific investigator in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, said: “The dirty little secret behind the lie detector is that the ‘test’ depends on trickery, not science. The lie detector recording pens don’t do a special dance when a person lies. It is no more scientific than astrology or tarot cards.” A Padma Bhushan awardee in the field of Forensic Science, Chandra Sekharan, said people must fully understand that it was the man behind the machine who ‘pretends to detect lies’ and not the machine.

The lie detector is an instrument capable of continuously recording blood pressure, pulse, respiration and electro-dermal response. The device measures only the body’s reaction to two different types of questions known as relevant and control questions.

In order for a lie detector to work, Prof Sekharan clarified, the examiner must establish a base line for a lie. This is known as a control question.

The polygraphist must trick the examinee into consciously lying to him. The lie detector machine is now given a respectable name “polygraph,” he pointed out.

Prof Chandra Sekharan explained: “The lie detector technician will ask a question he will assume no one can answer honestly and whatever response is generated from asking this question will be assumed to be a lie.” This assumption forms the basis of the lie detector examination and the machine works by being able to detect the ‘fight or flight’ response of the human body.

The ability of the man operating the machine to manipulate this is ridiculously easy, by sensitising the examinee prior to the test, i.e. by demeaning, making accusatory statements, yelling, and / or making disbelieving gestures in front of the examinee, prior to the administration of the machine.” Chandra Sekharan asserted that his five-decade experience and proven published scientific research showed that anyone could be taught to beat or win this type of lie detector exam in a few minutes.

There are other controversies chasing the show.

While the forensic expert wants the show off the air for its use of an unscientific technique, others are shocked at the admission of personal misconduct by celebrities on television that could ‘encourage others’ to indulge in similar activities.

This issue was echoed in the Rajya Sabha with Samajwadi Party member Kamal Akhtar accusing the producers of the reality show of obscenity, saying the deeply-personal questions asked on the show were against the Indian culture.

Call for ban on India's reality shows

Call for ban on India's reality shows

Some reality shows on India's television have created a storm. Many people are demanding a ban on these shows that border on nudity and invade the private lives of contestants.

One reality show contestant, Zara, has revealed to millions of viewers that she steals documents from her office. To improve her chances of winning the US$1 million prize for telling the truth, she has risked losing her job.

Avneet Kumar, a reality TV viewer, said: "It's very difficult to share your secrets with everyone. Hats off to such people who face this task. Their family is sitting in the studio and the entire nation is watching them on TV. Yet they have the confidence to divulge their secrets. I find this very interesting."

So do millions of viewers who tune into the show "Sach ka Samna" or "Face the Truth" every night. The most popular show on TV currently, it wires contestants to lie detector machines before asking personal questions.

"There is an element of surprise, there an element of suspense. To me, it's like a thriller. You never know which question is round the corner and I think all humans do have a tendency to sneak into everyone else's personal lives.

"I think all of us have that hidden desire. So once in a while, through programmes like these, one can peek into others' lives, which I am sure is otherwise not possible," said Ritesh Hemrajani, another reality TV viewer.

But critics said the show gets too personal and has the ability to break up families. They also argued that it is against Indian culture and can degrade the moral values of people.

Paramjeet Singh Pamma, president of National Akali Dal, said: "'Sach ka Samna', 'Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao' ('Save Me from This Jungle') and some other shows are resorting to sex in order to raise their TRPs. These programmes show obscene stuff that cannot be seen while sitting with women and children at home."

But these are the programmes that viewers want and a flurry of reality shows have come up with never-before-seen formats on Indian televisions – people taking showers in the open, young girls abusing judges and contestants talking about their sexual escapades.

Sevanti Ninan, a media critic, said: "If people are talking about what they are doing in their marriages, relationships and people are watching, I would say, it is a part of Indian culture.

"In fact, there is no such thing as the Indian culture. There is this assumption that Indian culture is something virtuous, where nobody has affairs, there is no extramarital sex. But that's not true, they are like everybody else."

The question is: How much is too much? There is no doubt that a lot of vulgarity appears on TV in the name of creative freedom, but it is best to let viewers decide what they want to watch.

Farah can't face the truth!

Farah can't face the truth!

Farah Khan might be a super successful filmmaker and now TV host with Tere Mere Beach Mein but she is not very open about facing the truth.

When asked if she will ever participate in Sach Ka Saamna, she says: "Never. I would not go on the show as a participant."

But she loves the format and the show's host, Rajeev Khandelwal. "I think Rajeev is doing a great job in Sach ka Saamna, which I love to watch. Not to forget that he is quite an eye-candy too," she says cheekily.

Sach Ka Saamna-Star Plus TV Show

Sach Ka Saamna-Star Plus TV Show

The Star Plus reality show Sach Ka Samna is raising controversies esp. among the politicians.

Recently some Politicians in Rajya Sabha created a lot of hungama over the reality show Sach Ka Saamna on Star Plus. They have expressed concern over the alleged morally outrageous content on the show, which is not suitable for Indian families to watch .

“They created a lot of halla on the content of Sach Ka Saamna by stating, the host of the show Rajeev Khandelwal is asking offensive questions to the contestants, just for the sake of getting high TRP’s,” says the source.

The question was raised in the Sabha about the first contestant- Smita. “She was asked, whether she would sleep with another man if her husband doesn’t come to know. To that she replied ‘NO’, but the polygraph test stated otherwise. It was quite shocking for the contestant and her husband,” adds the source.

This matter has been taken to Information and Broadcasting Ministry (IB). “They have served a notice to the channel and the show, though there was no reply from the other side,” chirps the little birdie.

We tried contacting the channel and the production house but they were not ready to give any comment on the same.

We also tried to get in touch with the host, Rajiv Khandelwal, but he washed his hands off the matter with a glib reply- “I’m not allowed to comment on any queries about Sach Ka Saamna, so kindly contact the channel.”

Now only IB ministry and TV will tell what the future of the show is. But truly, we can say here that ‘Truth is always bitter…’

Never for Sach Ka Saamna - Farah Khan

Never for Sach Ka Saamna - Farah Khan

Choreographer-turned-filmmaker Farah Khan is walking straight on air extremely gleeful. She’s almost done with pre-productions for ‘Happy New Year’ with her lucky-pal Shah Rukh Khan and as well kick-starting her TV show ‘Tere Mere Beach Mein’.

The show, reportedly, has something to bring you more than a chat show: unknown facts about B-Town and hi-profiled celebs. It’s just not about Khans, Roshan and Kumars taking part, but famous tycoons and sportsmen as well.

So, what’s Farah’s favorite show? ‘Sach Ka Saamna’ say Farah, who further adds, "I never knew even middle-class individuals would’ve secret lives that’s much prevalent in film industries. As well, I feel pity about the participants, who sometimes loose money and taken into tasks at their homes."

Is she interested taking part in Sach Ka Samna? She abruptly laughs loudly adding,"Never!! I would never come on this show"

Sach Ka Saamna - Is There a Social Impact?

Sach Ka Saamna - Is There a Social Impact?

“So do you actually love him?”

She thinks, agonizes, sweats.

So does he.

An audience of a zillion watches with bated breath.

Hold it. What is she sweating for? Trust is frail. It can break at the slightest poke. Especially in times of greater individual insecurity than ever before.

What was she agonizing over? If she actually loved him, why was she worried? Because the machine’s endorsement of her love was critical in the social context?

What was he agonizing over? That a “lie” would brand him wrong, never mind what the truth was?

No, don’t expect any links to articles on the veracity of lie detector tests in this post. I actually don’t care if the lady in question actually loved the man in question or not. I have a question. Do programs today operate independently? Is the social impact they have not a part of the criteria of selection?

This is not a TRP argument. That’s business. As a business target, a channel’s job is to gain a greater audience, hence provide a bigger/richer target audience, and hence invite bigger advertising investment. But a channel cannot ignore the fact that it has a social context too. Sure, a condom brand’s future sales could lie in it promoting irrational and promiscuous sex. But it doesn’t work that way.

I have a problem with Sach Ka Saamna. It’s selfishly irresponsible. Yes, every contestant is an adult, who probably signed a 40 page agreement before even appearing on the show. But who are we fooling? A contestant? The poor bloke or lady doesn’t know what will hit him/her before it actually does. Any mass media medium HAS to operate while being cognizant of the impact it will have.

You cannot transfer the responsibility on to the participant.

In any case, most participants who brave terribly intrusive questions actually declare that they desperately need the money. Like the lady in question that night. Individuals are weak, foolish, susceptible and gullible. Channels are not.

That night’s episode, where the young lady, even though she did it of her own free will, was rather saddening – it painted a rather sad picture of the channel and of us, the viewers, who gave the channel reason to telecast such stuff. I, at a point, did NOT want to know of her personal life any more. I hated the sight of her agonizing over that single question, and her man as well. The machine can go to hell! Why should we even hear a human subject another human to this crap?

Those with happy lives don't qualify to get on Sach Ka Saamna

Those with happy lives don't qualify to get on Sach Ka Saamna

What does it take to reach the hot seat, make easy money and enjoy 15 minutes of fame? Two DNA reporters riddhi and rashmi had their moment of truth while trying to get into the reality show Sach Ka Saamna -- that those with happy lives don't qualify.
After the screening, they found themselves muttering under their breath, "If only wishes were horses". Read on to know why they were rejected.

Riddhi's conversation

Sach Ka Saamna : What is your profession, how old are you?

Riddhi: I am a journalist and am 25.

Sach Ka Saamna: What would you say has been the most exciting thing in your life?

Riddhi: The fact that I am engaged to a guy not of my caste.

Sach Ka Saamna: Did your family readily accept him?

Riddhi: They had a few reservations earlier, but it's all cool now.

Sach Ka Saamna: What kind of relationship do your parents share with your fiance?

Riddhi: Just like one between any parents-in-law and son-in-law.

Sach Ka Saamna: Are you the only child?

Riddhi: I have a younger brother.

Sach Ka Saamna: How is your relationship with him?

Riddhi: Just like that between any elder sister and younger brother.

Sach Ka Saamna: You have a very happy life. You can't be on the show. We are looking for people who have seen lots of pain and sorrow in their life. Somebody who has done drug abuse or some such thing. The show works as therapy for them.

Rashmi's conversation

Sach Ka Saamna: Have you faced any struggle?

Rashmi: Not really. I live with my folks and have a great job.

Sach Ka Saamna: Tell us something about your childhood.

Rashmi: I had an average childhood. My parents faced problems in terms of money yet provided us kids all amenities. Thankfully, we managed very well.

Sach Ka Saamna: Any family problems?

Rashmi: Kind of. There were issues between my father and his brother (who is not alive anymore) regarding money, but it seemed to have healed with time.

Sach Ka Saamna: What about your siblings?

Rashmi: I have an older brother and we share an amazing rapport.

Sach Ka Saamna: What are your interests?

Rashmi: (At this point I felt it was becoming a job interview) I read a lot, practice Buddhism and chill out with friends. I also watch movies.

Sach Ka Saamna: Sorry, but you have lead a very good life. We are looking for people who want to come on the show and take it as a cleansing process. We want people to confess and accept a lot of things which they wouldn't otherwise.

Hubby tries Sach Ka Saamna with wife, tries to kill her

The popular reality TV show Sach Ka Saamna inspired a 40-year-old man in Meerut to play truth or dare with his wife and when he couldn't handle the truth about his wife's alleged affair, he tried to kill her.

On Sunday morning Rajesh Sonkar took his wife to an isolated spot, 16 km away from Meerut, on the pretext of playing their own version of Sach Ka Saamna.

When the wife confessed that one of their children was not Sonkar's, Rajesh slit her throat and fled from the spot.

Fortunately, a passerby found Asha lying in a pool of blood and took her to the hospital where she is now recovering.

The police was informed and Rajesh was arrested on Tuesday after an FIR was lodged.

Rajesh has confessed saying, “Maine usse poocha ki bachhe kiske hain, use ne bola ki ek mera aur ek uska. Hamari ladai ho gayi aur maine use mar diya. (I asked her whether the children were ours, she denied it and I got angry and wanted to kill her).

'TV is a hits and misses business''TV is a hits and misses business'

'TV is a hits and misses business'

For Sunil Lulla, being the director of Real Global Broadcasting, the company that launched the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) REAL in March this year, couldn’t be easy. One, the channel was launched at the peak of the economic downturn. Two, in the genre, REAL has remained a laggard with the lowest gross rating points (Star and Colors oscillate between 270 and 300 GRPs, while REAL’s GRPs have declined from 14 to 8 in the last five weeks) and a negligible one per cent market share. Lulla, the former CEO of Times NOW, refused to share the economics of the venture but agreed to field questions on what went wrong with the channel launched by Alva brothers’ Miditech and Turner International. Excerpts from an interview with Shuchi Bansal:

REAL didn’t get off to a big start in March. Was the channel poorly promoted?

For sure we did not get off to a start we aimed for. Some elements worked better than the others — our reality shows worked better than fiction. We were satisfied with the way we promoted our channel. However, media has become very competitive. Earlier, five to six weeks’ promotion was enough. Today, one needs a larger promotion window to break through the clutter. On hindsight, we feel that we should have invested in a sustained period of marketing.

How many hours of original programming do you have in a day? How many shows does Miditech produce?

We do three hours of original programming every day. To put things in context, when I was at Sony some years ago, we did similar hours. It is all about how much can you exploit original programming. TV is a hits and misses business.

So what makes for a hit on Indian television today?

I am not an astrologer to predict it with some confidence. Rakhi Ka Swayamvar worked for NDTV Imagine. Bidaaiis working on Star Plus. So both reality and fiction are working on prime time.

REAL’s GRPs are negligible and have declined further since its launch. Does it mean that the urbane, upwardly-mobile, young TV audience that you were targeting does not exist?
Experimentation is the key word here. The neo-Indians form a major section of the urbane and educated population. Although our first experiment may not have shown great results, but it did show that the neo-Indians (outward-looking, progressive) are ready and willing to experiment with new forms of entertainment content and are even looking out for more. We are committed to cater to their distinctive needs and you can be sure that we’ll be back with more.

Sach Ka Saamna on Star Plus is also for progressive Indians, even though the channel does not say it targets neo-Indians.

Yes, the lesson is that television is watched by everybody.

This means that REAL will change its strategy when it’s re-launched?

As I said before, television is a hits and misses business. Sometimes you get a hit and sometimes you miss. TV is a family viewing pastime but within that you can appeal to a particular target and schedule programming accordingly. I don’t want to comment on what we are developing. We are on the shuffle deck. We will come back with a new offering for the audience.

By when?

By the end of the year. I don’t want to put a date to it.

With this kind of performance, will you get second round of funding from Turner? The rumour is that Turner has refused to make further investments in the venture.

I don’t subscribe to rumours. Real Global Broadcasting is a privately-held company equally owned by Turner International and Alva Brothers Entertainment. Alva Brothers Entertainment’s relationship with Turner International goes back many years and we intend to continue to work together. As indicated earlier, REAL’s budgets for the launch and development were optimum. We will be ready to share our future plans, including investment plans, very shortly.

Is your cable distribution inadequate? Also, at 19 per cent, REAL’s reach (percentage of people who’ve watched the channel for at least a minute in that genre) is much lower than Star’s or Colors’ reach of over 60 per cent each.

The cost of reaching viewers has increased significantly and so have the barriers as viewers tend to flirt with programmes across genres. REAL reaches 82 million people. Having said that, its reach was not meant to be as wide as Star’s. We had thought it closer to 24 per cent. REAL was not designed as a “mass” reach channel. If you want more reach, you spend loud and serious money. If you think that makes a sustainable business model for you, you could spend. Else you could build reach over a period of time.

Channels are said to be buying “placement” to get the GRPs.
Some are, some aren’t. But if you spend that much and your programming is a “miss”, then that’s a shameful waste of money.

At what rate is the Hindi GEC category growing? Is growth sufficient to sustain 12 Hindi entertainment channels?

In 2008-09, viewership grew by approximately 9 per cent. There are significantly more TV homes and viewers to be added. Expansion of this space while economically challenging has created choice for viewers. Frankly, advertising growth is better than expected. Also, perhaps all the channels think that they have a larger probability of hits.

Besides, the industry is always in a consolidation stage. When someone closes down, someone sees it as an opportunity to enter the business.

Will REAL offer somebody the opportunity to enter the business?

I did not say that. We are working on a plan.

Sceptics say that Hindi GECs are sold on GRPs and not positioning. Do you agree?
Ratings show how many people are spending how much time on a channel or a show. The channel’s positioning decides its shows, which in turn decide the channel’s popularity. No viewer watches a channel because of its ratings. But they watch shows and create ratings. Positioning and, hence, content is what decides the success of the channel.

Strange Love triangle with Bobby Darling in the middle!

Strange Love triangle with Bobby Darling in the middle!

At some filmy party Bobby Darling expressed the desire to be featured opposite ace actor Akshay Kumar and chocolate-boy Ranbir Kapoor.

Bobby has always verbalized his fascination for the charming Khiladi Kumar and now she also wants to enter the love life of Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone! “I want work opposite Akshay Kumar as his heroine. I would also want to work in the film having love triangle between me, Ranbir and Deepika,” expresses Bobby.

Bobby is on cloud nine all these days not because she has many films in pipeline to release, but for the compliments that she has been constantly receiving from people about her feminine look in ‘Sach Ka Saamna’. This has certainly made her believe that she could do Akki ke love ka saamna.

Effect of Sach Ka Samna on the spectators’ mind

Effect of Sach Ka Samna on the spectators’ mind

So, finally Star Plus has decided to change the time slot of its popular and most controversial show ‘Sach Ka Samna’. The show has become poular within a very short time but I feel it’s a negative popularity. Cracking some practical joke with somebody is acceptable but forcing someone to reveal things that are very much personal and private in front of audience is not something very applauding. The show evoked controversy from its very initial stage by making former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli reveal his true feeling about master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. But was it needed at all? Why should people be forced to answer questions that they are not willing to? Is this a police enquiry where a hidden truth can help solving a mystery or catch a culprit? And why should people without any criminal or corruption charge go for polygraphic tests? Is this a detective squad or what?

Yes, from the point of view of TRP, Sach Ka Samna has been a very successful venture for Star Plus. It is undoubtedly the most talked about talk show in the country but this is certainly not the way to increase your TRP. Housewives are being questioned about their past lives, their extra-marital affairs and even professional lives, which are making family lives difficult for them? And not only is the show revealing the secrets in front of the audience but the entire nation is watching the show at a time. Once the show is over, the participants are becoming public figures. They are getting recognised easily. Once the secret of your life gets revealed your image gets changed to everybody. Just imagine yourself as a participant of Sach Ka Samna. You may have some dark past. May be its an affair, a crime, a mistake or may be a professional issue? Would you be the same person to your wife/husband, your friends or your company management?

This is nothing but interference in somebody’s personal life which shouldn’t be tolerated at any cost? You can’t force somebody to reveal secrets of his/her life in front of people and if you apply medical process for doing that it’s a crime. Even the police and the state-run investigating agency do not use the polygraphic test too often. So how can a television channel be allowed to do that just for the sake of entertainment? I wonder why people are not protesting against this show! Making life difficult for somebody cannot be a form of entertainment. I feel changing time slot is not enough, the channel should immediately stop the telecast of Sach Ka Samna’!

Just Pati Patni; Not Mummy Daddy

Just Pati Patni; Not Mummy Daddy

Pati Patni Aur Woh, NDTV Imagine’s latest serving on the already overflowing buffet table of reality shows, is custom made to put couples ill at ease. No not by introducing a seductress or a hunk as the ‘woh’ but by placing a child between them!

Yupp! Here's a reality show with a bump-a baby bump! NDTV Imagine along with BBC World presents Pati, Patni aur Woh, the desi version of The Baby Borrowers.

And to give the celebrity contestants a feel of the show, they were asked to handle their 'babies' for a trial time of around twenty minutes during the introductory press conference held by the channel. That should be easy right? Well, here's the lowdown of how each couple handled their baby.

Rakhi Sawant and Elesh Parujanwala were given a very chubby child. Rakhi at first happily took the bonny child in her arms and then suddenly getting aware of its weight slipped it to Elesh. The rest of the time she was happy just to play with her baby from a distance while Elesh like a good dad held the baby responsibly. Soon the photographers requested Rakhi to pose with her baby and Rakhi apprehensively took the child, but inch by inch the child started sliding on her hips. Elesh finally decided its better to avoid risk and took the baby from her. We think we heard a sigh of relief from the audience then!!

Was it planned or just a coincidence with Juhi Parmar and Sachin Shroff. Can't say and can't stop wondering too! Because, the kid truly resembled Juhi and to add to that effect both Juhi and her baby were dressed in the same shade of pink. Juhi and Sachin seemed like the parents who would definitely spoil their child rotten. During the whole time that the baby was with them, they kept showering her with kisses! We also saw a future celebrity in their baby as she confidently posed for the cameras.

Gaurav Chopra and Mouni Roy also got a child who was just like them. Their baby was one with prominently long legs which he used pretty effectively to kick Gaurav (eeks!). The baccha indeed gave a very hard time to both the lovers. He just wouldn't stop crying. Guess, the adventurous couple that they are, they got an equally challenging child.

Shilpa Saklani and Apoorva Agnihotri turned out to be the blessed couple among the lot. Their baby was surprisingly well behaved and quite. Not even a hint of annoyance was on the baby's face. Well, this doesn't mean Shilpa and Apoorva will have a cakewalk though. No matter how well behaved she is, she will do her number one and number two…

Television's Ram and Sita aka Gurmeet Choudhary and Debinna Bonnerjee got a baby boy. Debina was clearly not at all prepared to hold the baby. And her efforts to better her ways got the calm baby annoyed who started wailing. The baby got even more irritated when the shutterbugs started flashing at him. However, the young duo managed to calm their baby down with their joint petting.

In the name of entertainment

In the name of entertainment

The Delhi High Court has declined to admit a petition which wanted the reality show "Sach ka Saamna" taken off the air. Indian culture, said their lordships, was not so fragile as to be affected by one TV show. They said, wisely, "nobody in his individual capacity can be allowed to take up on the social order and ask for directions."

Members of Parliament, meanwhile, are exercised not just over middle class housewives going on television to admit to extra marital affairs (in the presence of their children, in-laws and husbands) but also over commercially successful sagas woven around child marriage. What is the country coming to?

Digest or reject

Television agitates people and is regular fodder for politicians who think it is more deleterious to the nation's health than substantial numbers of people doing without clean drinking water or going to bed hungry. That is not surprising, because television and its excesses are more visible. The deprived do not live in our drawing rooms. But seeing that the nation is turning 62 and all that, I would argue that satellite television excesses are something we are now grown up enough to digest. Or reject. As the good judges on the High Court division bench said, "In this land of Gandhi, it appears that nobody follows Gandhi. Follow the Gandhian principle of see no evil. Why don't you simply switch off the TV?"

In fact, on the medium today compared to any period over the past 15 years, we actually have choice. All those reality shows run a gamut that they did not before. They don't stop at quiz shows, bad singing and mimicry, they go on to husband-selecting from a band of hopefuls, lizard eating in the jungle, fractious housekeeping on an island, Bond-style sequences of pretty girls dangling from helicopters, and then, breaking up families on the one hand, ("Sach.") and bringing them together on the other ("Aap ki Kacheri"). All in the course of an evening's entertainment. Avoidable, you say? Maybe, but you can't complain about sameness.

Then there are the serialised sagas. True, "Hum Aapke Hain Kaun"-style weddings are still so much in vogue that daily life in the average TV household seems to be a perennial costume drama. It took some three episodes to get Jyoti married, only to have "Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai", "Ballika Vadhu" and "Laado" take over with tortuous wedding-centred sequences. But for a change there are actually some other stories around.

On offer are the daily adventures of a meddling good Samaritan of a taxi driver (Real), the tale of a young woman bureaucrat whose private sector husband lectures her on not taking principles too far (Real), another of a girl who wants to become an Olympic runner (Sony) and then there are a handful of rural sagas set, of course, in lavish modern mansions.

There are also what you would have called "socials" in the days of Doordarshan's primacy, a trend being shrewdly experimented with now by Colors and Zee. On air currently are serials purportedly about autism, trafficking, foeticide, child marriage, the class divide, and so on. Of course, to make them palatable at prime time they go through so many hoops that you would be hard put to recognize the original intent. A prime example of this is the serial "Laado" on Sony which has left foeticide far behind as it goes into improbable sequences of revenge in which a matriarch tortures a daughter in law while the men in the household twirl their moustaches and watch from the sidelines.

Unlikely as it may seem from all this, when they give interviews entertainment industry executives stress that Indian audiences are actually more discriminating than before, and are demanding more from content creators and platforms. With Rs. 8000 plus crores of advertising riding on it, TV is a lucrative industry, and Hindi general entertainment its single most paying segment. Marketers of these channels report hefty annual jumps in spending on research and marketing for these shows, as much as 50 per cent over last year, according to Mint.

That's the irony: a lot of highly paid minds are working to think up or import concepts that have the potential of make our lawmakers go ballistic. Hardly any minds, highly paid or otherwise are working to figure out whether TV entertainment is simply expensively produced time pass which people watch and forget (while remembering to buy the product advertised) or indeed an insidious shaper of values. Would Minister Ambika Soni like to think about remedying this?

Truly edgy

Meanwhile, a small suggestion for Star Plus, which airs "Sach ka Saamna". If they think asking Bobby Darling on television whether or not he uses the women's washroom is edgy, they are not exploring a lot of other truly edgy possibilities. Put a Congressman in that chair and ask him what he really thinks about certain members of his party leadership. Or a CPM worker, and ask him what he really thinks about certain members of his party leadership. Ask an income tax officer whether he and his bosses have taken bribes or a doctor whether she has performed medical termination of female foetuses. If such confessions could be aired, they would transform a rather pathetic aiming-totitillate show into public service television.

Game show enacted, suicide over wife's past

Game show enacted, suicide over wife's past

A young security advisor of a shopping mall allegedly committed suicide after finding out the "disturbing truth'' about his wife's past. The locals at Alpha-1 Block A in Greater Noida alleged the couple had watched an episode of Sach Ka Saamna on television and decided to play the "game'' between them. They claimed the deceased, Rajkumar, came to know about his wife's past on Thursday night when they were playing this game.

The police, though, dismissed the claims. "The suicide had little to do with the game show,'' said SP (Rural Noida), S K Verma.

According to sources, Rajkumar, a resident of Mohabbatpur village in Greater Noida, had married recently and was staying in a rented accommodation in Alpha-1. On Tuesday night, he accompanied his wife to a friend's house where they watched Sach Ka Samna on television and after the episode finished, Rajkumar asked his wife to play the game. His wife refused initially, but gave in when Rajkumar insisted. It was his wife who put in the questions first, but when her turn came to answer, she seemed indecisive. However, she submitted to her husband's insistence and allegedly owned up to the fact that she had a physical relationship with another man before she got engaged.

The next day, after coming back from his office in evening, Rajkumar hanged himself in his bedroom. His wife was not present in the house when he took the extreme step.

The police, though, said they have found nothing from the deceased's possession that supported this theory. "Our investigation revealed his wife left him for some other reason and that he was staying alone at the house. Also, we don't think he watched the said show. He did not even possess a television,'' said Verma.

To tell you the truth

To tell you the truth

You can always expect the unexpected from Raja Chaudhary. Last week on Sach Ka Saamna, the popular show on Star Plus, the controversial actor accepted having accused his (now, ex) wife for being in a relationship with a co-star, physically abusing her and having himself had an affair during the course of their marriage.

One would commend his courage to accept in public his failures and shortcomings. But the polygraph test gave him away when he denied having put up a show to gain media attention.

Chaudhary insists the polygraph test is incorrect. “Why will I mess up my public image any further for media’s attention? They already are interested in me - I have been chased for all the wrong things and the worst has already been written about me; why would I need more of it?” Then he adds, “The polygraph test isn’t accurate.” To prove his point, he confesses to having lied on at least two points in the show. “In the more financially stressful times of my life I have dreamt of a bag full of cash dropping from the heaven above. If I do get a bag full of Rs 1 crore, am I a fool to look at whom it belongs to and return it to the rightful owner?” he laughs mockingly.

Ram Sita ke beech Rakhi Sawant!

Ram Sita ke beech Rakhi Sawant!

The show Pati Patni Aur Woh has not yet started, but its already hitting the news, and that too for all the wrong reasons. Well this time, it’s Rakhi who is creating problems between Ram and Sita, aka Gurmeet and Debina.

Rakhi has been briefed to take paanga with Debina and Gurmeet and she is all set to get the TRP’s for the channel.”

But the query is- Why are the duo fighting. “Gurmeet is a very different person; he says that his family has taught him to stay away from the people who create trouble in your life. Never give them importance by reciprocating to their acts, while Debina is of a totally opposite point of view.”

“She will not take any nonsense from Rakhi and is ready to give her the answer, if the latter takes any paanga. Due to this, tiff occurs between Debina and Gurmeet,” concludes the source.

Well we can just advice Rakhi- ki bach ke rehna, as both Ram and Sita are kickboxing champs!

We are not thinking about marriage- Gaurav and Mouni

We are not thinking about marriage- Gaurav and Mouni

Gaurav Chopra and Mouni Roy fell in love on the sets of Zara Nach Ke Dikha and today they are taking their relationship ahead by coming together in a reality show where the duo needs to check their parenting skill. We are talking about their stint in Pati Patni Aur Woh on Imagine.

“We took a month to decide whether we want to do this show or not. I feel this is going to be a great experience, as we will find out what we will go through in real life in the years to come. Another factor is that we are getting good price to be on this show,” grins Gaurav.

When asked if they have ever handled a baby, Mouni replied, “My brother is 11 years younger to me and there are kids of my friends, with whom I have spent time. It was never like handling them and taking care. Even before going in the show, there is no plan or strategy as such that we will be using.”

The best part according to Gaurav is that he and Mouni get to stay together, as he says, “We will be staying together.

” Who will be handling the cooking department, we ask. Gaurav quickly pointed out to Mouni. “I will be cooking, as I know I can do that pretty well,” she quips.
Gaurav and Mouni had been out of the fiction world since a long time, and now all of a sudden they are coming together in a reality show. Why just reality? “It’s not just reality or fiction, but the matter of good work. I’ve done three reality shows in three years. Basically, it’s the conscious effort to take good work,” chirps Mouni.
“We are getting greedy and reality shows pay you well, thus we are here,” laughs Gaurav. “But frankly speaking we are looking out to do something unique and at the same time do some good work. Pati Patni Aur Woh has both,” he adds further.
When asked about their future plan of becoming pati and patni, Mouni quickly replies, “We are not thinking about it as of now.” “You may never know what happens after this show,” concludes Gaurav.
Well this is one couple which seems to be quite interesting so let’s see how well they can handle their life with a nanhe guest on

Pati, Patni Aur Narayani!

Pati, Patni Aur Narayani!

“Blame it on bad scripts or less money,” she says, “But I am happy doing the reality shows for now.” She’ll now be seen in yet another reality show called Pati, Patni aur Woh with beau Gaurav Chopraa. The show name did catch our fancy and we couldn’t help but ask Mouni if she ever felt insecure about Narayani Shastri being a constant fixture in Gaurav’s life.

“Is this story about the show, me or Narayani? Why does she have to come into the picture? Narayani doesn't need to get into this conversation. I’m not

Singing and dancing shows are passe' - Apurva Agnihotri

Apurva Agnihotri who is to take part in Imagine's Pati Patni Aur Woh with wife Shilpa disses the reality television shows which involve singing and dancing...
Apurva Agnihotri and his wife Shilpa Saklani Agnihotri are returning back to the television after a hiatus with NDTV Imagine's Pati Patni aur Woh

This reality television series doesn't involve dancing, singing or any gut wrenching dare. All this reality show requires is for the participating couple to exhibit their parental skills.

Did Apurva, in the process of endorsing his show, somehow tip off the scale and turn out to be offensive? This is what the actor had to say when questioned why he chose Pati Patni aur Woh to come back to television- "I personally as a viewer am kind of bored with singing and dancing reality shows. I wouldn't watch them. I'd rather take my dog out for a walk instead."

He goes on to talk about Pati Patni aur Woh, "This show might change the face of reality television. This might turn out to be a trendsetter."

On the other hand, Apurva's better half Shilpa jumped into the ship for hubby dearest. She says, "It was after a long time that I got a chance to work with Apoorva. It was not possible earlier as either he would be tied up in a commitment or I. This offer was made to us at the right moment and I just couldn't let such a nice offer go."

However Apurva wasn't the only reason Shilpa chose to do the show. She says, "I love kids. And I was told that here I would have a chance to spend time with kids. So I decided to go for it."

Joining the corus of voices criticising the reality show 'Sach ka Saamna', yoga guru Baba Ramdev today said there was no need to promote people who were "characterless".

"By giving the impression that promiscuous behaviour and infidelity was common, such programmes are promoting these tendencies. In reality, a majority of the people of our country are not the kind that appear on the show," he said.

He added, such programmes have negative psychological effects, particularly on children. "Don't we have anything else to show to viewers?" he sought to know.
